IWW EUC Website Content Posting Guidelines

The IWW Environmental Unionism Caucus adheres to the following guidelines for adding content to our site, ecology.iww.org:

1. Any member of the IWW EUC may propose additions to the content on this site, including articles, videos, images, PDFs, and books previously published elsewhere (as long as the work's original creator(s) are cited and it's original source linked, if possible[1]) or original content. Members may also propose additions to our links page and our syndicated news feeds.
2. If the work is copyrighted, we will make reasonable attempts to request permission to recopy the work on our site, or, in cases where we believe that it's inclusion is essential, we will invoke fair use rights, as described elsewhere on this site.
3. Proposed additions are offered via email messages sent to our internal IWW EUC membership forum (therefore the member making the proposed addition must be subscribed to that forum). The IWW EUC may also consider suggested additions solicited through our email contact address, euc@ecology.iww.org. However, we do not publish commercial content or advertising.
4. Proposed additions to the front page must be original material by members of the IWW or calls to action and/or organizing. Once submitted, the IWW EUC membership (i.e. the subscribers to our forum) have 48 hours to raise objections to each proposed item. If no objections are made within the alloted time, the additions may be added to the front page.
5. Once submitted, proposed additions to the links page shall be reviewed by the IWW EUC membership (i.e. the subscribers to our forum) for up to 48 hours. If no objections are made within the aloted time, the additions may be added to the front page.
6. Members may propose content additions to be added to the site--which are neither original articles for the front page or new links--which are visible by conducting a search as described on the Green Unionism page. Once submitted, the IWW EUC membership (i.e. the subscribers to our forum) have one calendar month to raise objections to each proposed item. If no objections are made within the allotted time, the additions may be added to the site.
7. Proposed additions must be generally relevant to green unionism and/or class struggle environmentalism. They must not reveal confidential information about IWW members or their organizing efforts, engage in personal attacks against IWW members, promote wanton sectarianism (comradely offered constructive criticism is justifiable, however), or deliberately spread falsehoods.
8. If the member proposing an addition (other than a link) desires it's inclusion in the list of highly recommended texts they must specify this when they propose the item.
9. Members may also propose adding currently existing content to the list of highly recommended texts. Once recommended for addition, the IWW EUC membership (i.e. the subscribers to our forum) have 48 hours to raise objections to each proposed item. If no objections are made within the aloted time, the proposed additions will be added to the list of highly recommended texts.
10. Any member may register an objection, i.e. a "block"[2] to any specific proposed addition within the allowed review period, however, the member making the objection must state the reason for the objection. Reasons for blocking may include (but not be limited to) the proposed addition falling under one or more of the following categories:
    • (a) the proposed addition is not relevant;
    • (b) the proposed addition is blatantly sectarian;
    • (c) the proposed addition is in violation of the letter of the IWW Constitution;
    • (d) the proposed addition is in clear violation of the IWW's Safer Spaces policies;
    • (e) the proposed addition engages in unfounded accusations or personal attacks against other members (however, general disagreements and differences of opinions about issues, strategies, tactics, etc. are permissible);
    • (f) the proposed addition reveals sensitive information about IWW members or organizing efforts;
    • (g) the proposed addition advocates actions or tactics which could endanger members of the IWW;
    • (h) the proposed addition duplicates texts already on our site.
    • (i) the proposed addition is copyrighted and its reproduction doesn't conform to the spirit of "Fair Use Guidelines"

    Members may not make blanket "blocks" to proposed multiple additions, nor may they decline to state a reason for their objections.

11. All additions (other than links) shall be post dated to match their original publication date, as closely as possible. If no day is specificied, it shall be listed as the first of the month (or April 2, to avoid any confusion with April Fool's Day, unless the article is intended as satire). If no month is specificied, it will be either listed as January, May, or June). This is intended to ensure that items are searchable in reverse chronological order. Currently existing items which do not conform to this standard shall be edited, over time, to conform to it.
12. IWW EUC webadmins may edit or modify existing texts (other than "article" or "book" nodes), such as contact information, lists of tags, and/or fixing broken links, as needed. Such changes do not require review by the membership, but must be reported to our forum.
13. Generally, we feature content which offers a wide range of scope about green unionism and/or class struggle ecology. Our approach to inclusion is non-sectarian (though there are certainly some lines we will not cross, such as violation of the IWW's Safer Spaces policy, or publishing any blatantly fascist or capitalist texts). For example, we may publish content which is favorable to ideas like the Green New Deal. This should not be taken to suggest that the IWW EUC uncritically supports the Green New Deal, or even supports it at all. We include such discussions, because we believe that such ideas are an inevitable part of any broad discussion about green unionism and/or class struggle ecology. If we ignore such discussions and debates, workers may lack essential knowledge that makes them effective organizers. For example, in the case of the Green New Deal, if it is the consensus opinion of the IWW that such frameworks are inherently limited and/or reformist, we at least can share knowledge of them to serve as a starting point to devise a more revolutionary, comprehensive alternative, (again) in the spirit of comradely and constructive criticism.

[1] Any images or artwork included in any proposed additions must be attributed if known.

[2] It is not the intent of the IWW EUC to advocate that the IWW as a whole replace majoritarian democracy (which is mandated by the IWW Constitution) with modified consensus process, however, for the purposes of making additions to the ecology.iww.org site, consensus process is simple and efficient, especially since this is a caucus, without formal structure.
