Houlton Regional Hospital nurses holding town hall meeting on planned closure of labor and delivery unit

Responding to the news that Houlton Regional Hospital (HRH) plans to close its Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) department, HRH nurses will hold a town hall meeting Wednesday, April 9. Nurses were informed of the planned closure last week and say it is a disastrous decision for patients across their region, who could face much longer travel times to seek labor and delivery care.

San Leandro and Alameda Hospital nurses ratify historic new contract with strong measures to improve patient safety and nurse retention

Registered nurses at San Leandro and Alameda Hospital voted overwhelmingly in favor of ratifying a new five-year contract that will improve patient safety and nurse retention. San Leandro RNs ratified the contract on Tuesday, April 1 and Alameda RNs ratified the contract on Wednesday, April 2. The RNs at both hospitals are now under one agreement.

Chicago nurses demand an end to VA staffing cuts

Chicago-based registered nurses from the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, VA Hines Health Care, and Captain James A. Lovell Federal Healthcare Center will join Cook County nurses for a rally at Jesse Brown on March 28 to demand an end to staffing cuts. The VA secretary has confirmed what was first reported in a leaked memo, that the administration is looking to cut between 72,000 to 80,000 workers from the VA.
